Wye Valley Shared Use Path donations
The petition in support of the Wye Valley Shared Use Path (#Wander Wye) has been running since 2nd May 2014 and has amassed 3759 signatures so far, the overwhelming support for the revised project especially due to the increased levels of walking and cycling and equestrian activity amongst a wide band of people over the last five years has enabled us to form our own organisation A-B Connecting Communities to receive funding as a not for profit organisation via Lloyds Bank in Chepstow.
The aim is to achieve a shared use route linking the Severn Bridge via the Wales coastal Path to a new Link footbridge (to include cycles) across the River Wye at the Mabey National Shipyard development where at Sedbury it connects with the originally proposed Railway Path to The Old Station Tintern and onward up the Wye Valley to Monmouth.
Alan Hayward, originally from Cass Hayward in Chepstow has drawn provisional plans for the footbridge that will help mitigate air pollution in Chepstow by encouraging more sustainable transport for school journeys. He is also responsible for designing a walkway across the A48 bridge and the proposed link foot/cycle bridge in Tintern.
In May 2015 Liddell Associates of Chepstow, joined us as experienced planning consultants to submit the new planning application to include the new section from the Severn Bridge.Sustrans are collaborating with our organisation and providing information where necessary for the new Applications.
By using local consultants the project stays under local control for the residents of Chepstow who will directly benefit from this great and wonderful resource for the whole of the Wye and Severn Valleys and indeed for the UK.
The first stage is Pre-planning consultation and the approximate cost £15,000 that we need to raise for the whole application process.
The costs have been outlined by Liddell Associates:
i) Architect (To act as lead consultant and collate/liaise with other consultant reports, etc, provide all necessary drawings and details) £5,000
ii) Quantity Surveyor (To provide budget estimates/cost advice £2,000
