Rainwater harvesting

By ‘harvesting’ the rainwater which falls on your roof, you can:
  • save money on water and sewage bills
  • extend the life of appliances through use of soft water
  • cut the need to treat water to potable standards for uses where this is unnecessary
  • reduce the pressure on Kent’s countryside for new reservoirs
  • protect our dwindling aquifer supplies
  • treat with respect that most precious of resources, which we in this country take for granted whilst others struggle to find enough to survive on.
WyeCycle have for over a year now been operating a pilot project, which demonstrates that a typical 3-bed semi-detached house can harvest enough rainwater to run a washing machine all year round (at a load a day average). Within 12 months the capital cost has been recouped in savings on water bills. This system was installed on a DIY basis using reclaimed materials; with charged labour costs and purchased materials the payback period will be longer.

Below are photos of the system. WyeCycle can provide a consultancy service to support you in developing your own system; for further details then contact us.

Refill Service

Whilst recycling is good, re-use remains the better environmental option. WyeCycle have always chosen not to recycle one-trip disposable plastic packaging, believing that to do so would make us little more than ‘green wash’ for big business. Instead we promote more sustainable options, such as the refill service for cleaning products offered for many years now by Leppers Home and Garden in Olantigh Road.

ecoverSimply leave your empty bottle at the shop as you purchase a full one; zero packaging waste, environmentally benign products, and money which circulates in the local economy. Recycled toilet roll, low energy light bulbs and other eco-products are also available at Leppers.
